Call Out: Australian Women Writers on Kindle

It has been suggested by minds cleverer than mine, namely Tansy, that a list of SF & Fantasy (or any genre really) books by female authors available on the Kindle in the Aus/NZ region would be a useful thing.

And since I haven't actually managed to start the challenge for myself yet, and since I'd been toying with the idea of starting a twitter list of aussie women authors only to find I didn't need to because Elizabeth has one started, I thought this might be something I could do to help.

So!

If you are — or know of — an Australian female author with books available on the Kindle in the Aus/NZ region, let me know.

Leave me a comment here, or send me a twitter reply/dm (my username over there is debkalin), or email me and I'll set up a post or page with the collated information. Links to author's websites (and/or straight to the Kindle store) would of course be appreciated, but for those who forget to/can't provide one, I'll do my best to hunt out what I can on that front. Genre information for the author and/or book might not go astray either, for the benefit of those seeking books to review.

I think Claire Corbett's "When We Have Wings" is available on Kindle.

But I don't have one and I don't know how to tell who's allowed to buy what on Amazon; it seems to be a process of adding things to your trolley and then being yelled at in red letters at the checkout when it realises you're from Australia :p

Awesome system, isn't it? Thanks for reminding me – I'll see if I can find out availability etc. I think she's A&U, so chances are good it's available – they put mine up pretty swiftly.

Also Mary Victoria, who's a NZ fantasy author :)

My favourite Foz, thank you for not taxing/trusting my already-beleaguered memory banks. I shall add you to my list of links.

Let me know of any others you can think of – trying to do too many jobs this morning and I'm forgetting all of them.

Love and Romanpunk by Tansy Rayner Roberts
Thief of Lives by Lucy Sussex

And very soon the other 2 published volumes of Twelve Planets and then the rest as they are released.

Hi Thoraiya (thanks) and Deborah – yes When We Have Wings is definitely available on all e-formats, including Amazon/Kindle. It is only available as an e-book to Australian and NZ readers at the moment, though that may change when European editions come out.

Thanks Alisa – I was just about to google/email regarding the TPP titles. Is Deb's Book of Endings up there too?

Hi Claire, thanks for confirming! I'll be sure to get your name and links up on the list. Read the first chapter of your book at my mother's place over Christmas, actually – do you read much spec-fic, or do you tend more towards the literary genre?

Hi Deb, this has mirrored in broken html at LiveJournal. I don't know if you visit there often anymore, but the entry is almost impossible to read. Good luck with your list – I just got a Kindle yesterday and am hoping to feed it with good words soon.

Oops! Thanks so much for letting me know – I mustly visit LJ via my phone app these days, and it's displaying the post fine so I didn't spot any problems. Hopefully fixed now – and lucky you, Kindle! My cousin was showing off a Kindle Fire this Christmas. Looked very slick and sleek.

    Hey Deb!

Glad someone's doing this! The first 2 books of my Creature Court trilogy, Power and Majesty & The Shattered City, are on the Kindle for Aus/NZ, and the third (Reign of Beasts) will be up there I imagine on the 1st Feb.

Thanks, Tansy! I'm not entirely sure I knew what I was signing up for – my twitter stream has been going crazy all day and I know I've just barely scratched the surface.

Have your name on the list for linking – let me know if you can think of anyone else.

    Hi Deb
In answer to your question, yes I do read a lot of spec fic as well as literary fiction – though for me there's a lot of crossover. There are many books that def fall into both categories.

  16. Deb [15 January 2012 @ 9:05 am]

Oh, absolutely – I find genre more useful for selling books, rather than writing them. So it's as common as not for a book to stray over genre lines. Congrats on your publication – good to have you on board :)

  17. Claire Corbett [15 January 2012 @ 12:21 pm]

agree – thanks. My most serious genre cred at the moment is that I turned Jeff Noon ("Vurt") on to The Windup Girl. I reckon that's pretty cool :D

Ha! Good work! I bought a copy of that while I was in Salzburg recently, and devoured it in a couple of days. Some great stuff in that book.
