H'm. My routine's definitely been off lately - maybe that's at the heart of my problem.

The tricky thing with this writing business is that either solution (time off, pushing through) might work, and might not, and there's no real way to tell which is the best for any given situation.

Ah well. C'est la vie.

For me, the only thing that really works is routine - sitting down every day and writing *something*, even if it's crap and has to just be deleted the next day (which is damn frustrating). Eventually, the crap will stop and I'll get something good.

I was reading a post on LJ earlier today where someone was talking about a similar issue - coming up against a portion of the novel in progress where she had no idea what was going to happen. She tried doing some stream of consciousness writing - basically having a conversation with herself about what needed to happen - and eventually found what she needed.

If all else fails, of course, just taking some time off and doing other things helps, too.

Heh. Sadly, this is one of my normal tricks, but it's not working so well lately.

If I write, then that's one less thing to beat myself up about?
