The Post Office shouldn't toy with me like that…

Posted on Posted in journal

Last Thursday, I was somewhat startled to see a large envelope from SciFiction in my mailbox: too large for a form rejection, thinks I. Could it be?

Alas, alack, no. It wasn't a large envelope from SciFiction, but a large envelope to the magazine. This would be the result of the Post Office's inability to deliver my submission. Le sigh.

I promised myself I'd put it back in the mail today, hopefully with better delivery results this time. But of course, I need a car to do this. And my car is currently sans battery. Le sigh deux.

  1. Ouch. That's annoying. But it's probably just part of some grand cosmic realigning that will result in Ellen Datlow saying, "I must have this story!" Because maybe otherwise it would have arrived on the day that she, I don't know, got robbed by a monkey with a wooden leg, and your monkey with a wooden leg story would've just rubbed the wrong way…:-)

(and no, I won't let the monkey die. Never! Never, I say!)

  2. Ah, I see. Yes, of course. Well, this story contains no monkeys, just some smelly fruit-bats. (The monkey, he's slated for a different story. I have the title already. Just waiting on the rest of it.)

  3. We love the postal system.
Still waiting on some books I ordered a month ago. Ahem.

By the way, this comment box I'm typing in write now is…weird. Basically, for every character I type, it's adding a LOT of blank space to the bottom of the page. Mozilla 1.7.2. The scroll bar is having a fit.

  4. I don't know whether it was AusPost or USPost which was having the trouble. I'm really hoping USPost, because, you know, North America is a rather large landmass. It wouldn't look particularly good for AusPost if they couldn't find a continent.

H'm. Interesting. It's probably the live-preview feature installed on the page. I'll disable it for now; let me know if you have the same problem if/when you next comment, 'kay?
